Bulgarian Students on the Verge of Depression - Survey

Society | October 16, 2006, Monday // 00:00

Over 55% of the students from eastern Bulgaria's Targovishte are susceptible to falling into depressive states, state radio BNR reported.

The survey on young people's mental health was carried out by the Regional inspection for health protection among youths between 16 and 18 years of age.

Unemployment, the widespread violence, and aggression are among the main reasons for the impaired psychological health of the teenagers in the region of Targovishte.

The teenagers were also asked questions concerning their value system.
About 45% of them pointed out that the most important thing is for a person to be clever. Second and third come kindness and beauty.

More that 20% were accredited to friendship, 19% - to work and wealth.

The researchers recommend that specialists should have individual meetings with young people in order to perk up their self-confidence, improve their mental health and relieve their state of mind because all three are conditions for successful professional and personal realisation.
