Outspoken Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered in Moscow, most likely because of her controversial investigations.
Svetlana Ganushkina, head of the local Civil Cooperation committee has told the media that Politkovskaya's probes into the events that surrounded the terrorist attack at the Nord Ost theatre in Moscow in October of 2002 were the most probable reason for the murder.
The journalist was found shot to death in the elevator in her housing block, with a gun and for shell casings tossed nearby. Police are certain that the murder was not an accident or a robbery gone bad, because one of the shots was to the journalist's head.
Her investigative pieces and sharp pen have earned her a series of awards.
