The image of a certain ample-bosomed folk singer has started to haunt me. It should, some might say, for Ceca Velickovic is in Bulgaria, hours away from throwing the "concert of the year." Mayors rush to greet her, journalists want to touch her, fans have already got tickets and recapped all her songs and fading stars are desperate for her glory to rub off on them somehow, so they arrange a warm-up act. It reminds me of my childhood, when Serbian music was about as foreign as you could get under the communist regime and a classmate's father somehow got a pirate video cassette with Lepa Brena's wedding. Suddenly that girl became popular and everyone wanted to hang out with her.

And now the day has come, Ceca is about to sing 40 songs, and Sofia is under siege, streets are sealed off, the way it always is at big events like NATO summits, football games and, oh, yes, Ceca's visit.

Kudos to the concert's organizers for managing to spin it off as the happening of the year, overshadowing Depech Mode and Eros Ramazotti. They were the first to actually pull off a concert on the National Stadium. All good, but we are talking about the very same stadium where photographers are instructed every time to be careful with the grass. Depeche and Eros fans had to travel all the way to the other end of Sofia, but thousands of Ceca fans stomping all over the place? Sure, why not?

There's just one piece missing from the puzzle - no presidential candidate tried to use the folk star's visit to his advantage... could it be that she's not so great after all?
