With all the EC rapporteurs, commissioners and whatnots keeping an eye on Bulgaria, our officials seem to be snapping under the stress. The latest scandal - that of a Russian grandma, who tried to board a plane with a stack of ammo in her luggage just proves that paranoia has struck the authorities.
Finding no real reason for the bullets to be in the woman's bag, and unable to give a clear explanation to the media, our police have come up with the perfect (yet slightly off-the-wall) story: someone is testing Bulgarian police' reactions to see if we're fit to join the EU. There are a lot of forces that want to see Bulgaria fail, the Border Police chief said cryptically.
Oh my, those must be some pretty evil forces at work here. Now I know we have to be on the lookout for undercover BENT (Bulgaria and EU Never Together) agents. I've heard those are easily recognizable. Normally they hang around elderly ladies' luggage at the airport, spark debates about migration on certain islands and help Bulgarian criminals make a name for themselves abroad. If that doesn't work there's always the very sinister look in their eyes that gives them away.
