Campsite Swaps Alcohol for Beach-Collected Cigarette-Butts

Bar owners at the southern Bulgarian campsite of Smokini have found a new way to keep the Black Sea beach clean of cigarette butts.

Each customer who brings two mugs full of fags collected from the sand receives a mugfull of Bulgarians' preferred beach drink Menta (mint), private bTV channel reported.

Tourists have embraced the idea of keeping the beach clean and getting a free drink, and turn in about 70 fag-filled mugs a day.

The offer was a whooping success at first but the number of mugs handed in is deteriorating. Bar tenders suppose that the main reason is that the beach is finally becoming cleaner and tourists are just finding it hard to fill their mugs.

It is the cleanest beach all over Bulgaria's seaside, they boast.
