A special initiative body will launch the drafting of an encyclopaedia on Thracia - telling its ancient and modern history.
Encyclopaedia Thracia will dwell on various aspects of culture and history focusing on the key geo-strategic and economic role of the region - a vast area locked between the Black Sea, Stara Planina and the Rhodopes.
The initiative runs under the aegis of President Gerogi Parvanov and favors the support of Socialist MP Petar Kunev.
The project goes well beyond the boundaries of Bulgaria, spreading also to Turkey and Greece. It will channel the efforts of various social circles, such as scientists, politicians, mayors, journalists and members of the so-called Thracian clubs.
Thracia is a historical and geographic area in Southeast Europe. Nowadays this name designates a region spread over southern Bulgaria, northeastern Greece, and European Turkey.
Ancient Thrace - the territory where ethnic Thracians lived - also included today's northern Bulgaria, north-eastern Greece and parts of eastern Serbia and eastern Republic of Macedonia.
