Castro Steps Down after Surgery

Cuban leader Fidel Castro has temporarily handed power to his brother Raul after undergoing surgery. Castro, who turns 80 next month, had suffered internal bleeding after a heavy schedule in recent weeks had affected his health, said a statement written by the president and read on TV by his personal secretary. In the statement, The Cuban leader said his operation had forced him to take "several weeks' rest". This is the first time Castro has given up any of his duties since he stepped into office in 1959.
