Bulgarian hospitals have started treating apoplexy through a revolutionary method that shows "phenomenal" results reports say.
Seaside Varna's Saint Marina hospital is already treating patients, who have had a stroke, using this method, bTV channel repored.
The key is quick reaction, as the patient has to be injected with the medicine as soon as possible after they have suffered the attack. Once the thrombus clogging the veins is injected, the coagulated blood is restored back to a liquid state and thus paralysis is avoided.
This method could prove decisive in bringing down the stroke mortality rate and the social consequences of having suffered a paralyzing apoplexy.
Hospitals all over the world are already convinced that the new treatment functions well and Bulgaria has treated two patients in Sofia and one in Plovdiv. Varna's medics have also treated their first patient using the new method, as the man was lucky enough to suffer the stroke while he was in the hospital for tests.
Bulgaria's National Health Insurance Fund has agreed to cover such treatment, but only for 11 patients a year.
