Hundreds stepping down from the plane, tears in the eyes, children and babies gleaming in the embrace of friends, grandparents, aunts and uncles -" so typical and so unusual a picture in a hot day at a Bulgarian airport. At time when people are usually reveling the sensation of long-anticipated summer holidays, thousands of people have struggled for a seat on any plane, ferry, or bus to flee their homes, work and friends amid incessant bombs and gunfire. Which's that movie? Alas, no movie this is, and nobody has opted to be part of it. The expanding humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, triggered by the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, threatens to plunge that ancient land of civilization into another several decades of ruins, poverty, and anarchy. Hezbollah must surrender the two Israeli soldiers - appeals from the one side say! Sure, but what there is also the path of negotiations to settle any international dispute. Two lives of military men on the scales against hundreds of civilian lives and destroyed homes - does it sound justifiable? Some may say that politics - least war - has nothing to do with moral, but there is a moment when the humanitarian aspect of every conflict of the kind prevails the original cause. Let's hope it would not go so far as to think of the problem as a major humanitarian crisis.
