Jingle Bells

by Petya Bondokova

Do you feel disturbed by the loudspeakers of Sofia's central Mosque? How loud do Church bells ring in the center of the capital? I had never asked myself these questions until these days, and surely most of Sofia's people hadn't either. Had you? Unfortunately, Ataka have apparently run out of inspiration about how to maintain public interest, and now use the loudspeakers to fiddle with patriotic sentiments. Everyone knows the Mosque isn't the noisiest factor in the central area. What makes the situation twice more ludicrous is the counterstrike - hacking the Ataka website to upload Turkish symbols and music. Whatever motives the two sides have, their actions are childish and distasteful. More than ever, I am convinced that there are much better ways to get publicity than to try sparkle tension in a city where a Church, a Mosque, and a Synagogue have been sharing a central spot peacefully for hundreds of years.
