Let There Be Light

by Petya Bondokova

You have to be an idiot to drive with headlights off when it's dark. Bulgarian lawmakers don't agree with me. I'm okay with that. Maybe their decision to impose obligatory headlights throughout the winter makes sense, and could help avoid an accident or two. But introducing more and stricter road rules when nobody seems to care about those already existing - well, that doesn't make sense. It's like sitting down before you make sure there is a chair. In our case, tens of Bulgarians are hurt of killed at pedestrian walks every year, and EUR 5 solves your problem with speeding. Beyond doubt, authorities should first try to teach people respect the law and act responsibly, then go back to lawmaking. Because on the road paperwork doesn't save lives.
