Say what you like about Bulgaria's current President Georgi Parvanov, but you may feel free to congratulate him on winning a second term. Three months ahead of the presidential elections in Bulgaria and even before Parvanov has officially stated he will run, what should be pre-election passions feel more and more like an already fixed match. On Thursday Parvanov fervently joined villagers in harvesting, reaping hook in hand and "no" pre-election campaigning in mind. Nedelcho Beronov, the most prominent, but only in judicial circles, lawyer once again gave no sign of bringing the right-wing parties a notch nearer to unity. The centrists continued to mull their candidate, in line with their lofty political style and fully aware they have no chance after a drastic slump in support for the former king's party. And Volen Siderov, the famously erratic nationalist leader, joined the list of candidates for the office at Dondukov 2 Str. If the rightists, as expected, oppose their fate to run together and pull out of this marriage of convenience, the match this October will be as boring as a World Cup final. And if we are to stick to the analogy, let's hope the unrestrained and wild Volen Siderov will bring some passion into it.
