Prisoner on a Leave Kills Woman in Bulgaria

A prisoner, who was on a temporary leave from jail, has killed a woman in the northern Bulgarian village of Rogozen after a quarrel.

Thirty-two-year-old Nedyalka Petrova was knifed in the hands and chest several times. After he stabbed his victim several times, the 46-year-old man knifed himself in the chest. He has been hospitalised and there is no danger for his life.

The prisoner has been placed under strict police watch and will be taken back to jail when he is released from the hospital.

Light regime prisoners in Bulgaria can by law be awarded with a temporary home leave of up to five days in cases of exemplary behaviour.
