At least 58 people have been killed after their bus struck a mine in north-eastern Sri Lanka, police say. Another 45 people were wounded in the explosion in Anuradhapura district, 200km north of Colombo. This is the worst single incident involving civilians since the Tamil Tigers and the government agreed a ceasefire in 2002. No group has claimed responsibility, though similar attacks in the past have been blamed on the rebels.
