Children to Rejoice in Int'l Sofia Venue

Twenty-seven years since opening the memorial "Zname na mira", more than 3000 children will come to Sofia and take part in the International Children Assembly June 17.

The monument largely associated with the communist era of Bulgaria was built up by Lyudmila Zhivkova, daughter of then head of state Todor Zhivkov. Her name has just recently seen some recognition, as Zhivkova has been a great promoter of Bulgaria's cultural development.

In 1999, her daughter Zheni Zhivkova, prominent designer and currently socialist MP, set up the foundation "Lyudmila Zhivkova - Zname na mira" in an attempt to restore this monumental complex to its original purpose.

In August 2004 there was inaugurated the Pantheon of Children - Victims to Terrorism.
