A commemorative concert for the Bulgarian-born opera prima diva Ghena Dimitrova will be staged Friday in Sofia.

The concert is organised on the eve of one year since the great voice of Bulgaria passed away.

"In Memory for Ghena" will be joined by many of Ghena Dimitrova's soprano disciples who will perform a large repertoire, particularly of Verdi and Puccini.

A movie, "Ghena - The voice of a century past", will be dedicated to the great opera prima.

The world-famous soprano passed away on June 11 in Milan, Italy, at the age of 64. Her remains were transported to Bulgaria. Dimitrova's last will was to be buried in her homeland.

She was buried June 17 in Sofia.

Ghena Dimitrova has been recognized as one of the most famous sopranos of the past 35 years. She was born in Beglezh, Bulgaria in 1941. She graduated singing with maestro Christo Brambarov at the Sofia Conservatory in 1965 and made her debut in Sofia in 1967.
