The state of Bulgarian-Russian relations could not be positively appraised at the moment, but the future is optimistic, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy said in an interview for the Russian newspaper "Nezavisimaia gazeta".

The drop in the Bulgarian-Russian trade turnover, as well as the inherited debts and property problems between the two countries hinder Sofia and Moscow to work on other problems with real potential for development, Passy pointed out.

He said that the improvement of the relations between Bulgaria and Russia are of great importance for the present Bulgarian government. He added that the main Bulgarian goal was the accession of the country to the Euro-Atlantic structures.
