The authentic martial art of the monks for the Shaolin monastery will be presented for the first time in Bulgaria in June.

The spectacle will take place June 7 in the National Palace of Culture and will be under the aegis of the Chinese ambassador to Bulgaria. The show is part of the events organized within the China Culture Days in Bulgaria.

A total of 20 of the best-trained monks from the ancient monastery will show their martial skills, the power of their spirit and concentration. The demonstrations will be accompanied by life performance of traditional Chinese music.

The Shaolin temple is a Chinese Buddhist monastery famed for its Chan Buddhism and its martial arts. Its monks, threatened by bandits and other enemies, developed a system of self-defence that became known throughout the world as kung fu. The tradition of meditation and martial arts has continued.
