Strong Quakes Hit Russian Remote Region of Kamchatka

Five powerful earthquakes with a magnitude ranging from 5.1 to 7 on the Richter rattled villages on Russia's remote Kamchatka Peninsula but there were no immediate reports of serious injury. The first earthquake with force 7 on the Richter scale struck 11 pm local time (15:11 Moscow time). Four other tremors with a magnitude of 5.1-5.6 followed with an interval of 14 to 40 minutes. The epicentres were north of the settlement of Khailino at a depth of 10 to 20 km. On April 21 an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude hit villages on Kamchatka Peninsula but caused no serious injury.
