Montenegro Independence Referendum Sees Strong Turnout

Close to 90 % of the people of Montenegro have already voted in the independence referendum that would sever the country's union with Serbia. Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic from Montenegro's pro-independence government believes that dissolving formal links with Serbia would bring the country in the EU sooner. The European Union has stated that the separation decision could only be reached with a 55% majority. So far it looks like independence supporters may reach it and succeed in creating the newest European state.
