Bulgarian high-school graduates are prepping for their proms and Sofia has already started to witness the loud party processions.

Being the city with the highest number of schools the capital usually sees the largest number of seniors parade in their gowns and tuxes.

The prom, however, obviously doesn't offer enough thrills for the young partygoers, so many feel that hanging out of the windows and car hoodswhile speeding down boulevards is a key rite of passage when leaving school. This practise often leads to serious incidents and traffic police tightens their grip every year when the end of the school year nears.

The fear of a ticket, doesn't stop students from living their 15 minutes of fast-lane glory, SNA reporters noted. When asked why they were hanging out of speeding cars, even though the police have urged them not to do so, some graduates told private bTV channel that police didn't have a say in this because they were celebrating.

"There is no safe way to celebrate," a senior claimed.
