Bulgaria is occupying the 5th place in Europe's obese ranking.
Bulgaria is participating in the European program for obesity prevention and treatment, docent Svetoslav Handzhiev, chair of the Bulgarian association for obese research, announced in Albena, where the 2nd Balkan obesity congress is taking place.
Some EUR 16 M have been allotted for the program that includes 14 countries.
The project will include nearly 2,000 volunteers. The families in the project, in which at least one parent or child suffered from obesity included in the program will be studied for six months. The volunteers will be subjected to special nutrition and activity regime.
The five-day-program aims to find ways of obesity prevention and treatment.
