Sofia Hospital Head Accused of Selling Stem Cells

Crime | May 18, 2006, Thursday // 00:00

The head of a reputed obstetrics clinic in Sofia exported stem cells to Belgium and Holland, his colleagues claim.

Dimitar Dragiev, who heads the Sheynovo center, has a private firm arranging such exports, according to Sofia's Medical Holding.

The organization, founded in 203, unites all of the capital city's hospitals.

Two Sheynovo doctors are partners in Dragiev's firm, the Holding has alarmed.

More than 50 families have reportedly used the firm's services in a year, and each of the couples paid EUR 1 500.

The signal against Dragiev also accused him of major expenses for repair works and new equipment, neglecting the fact of the clinic's mounting debt.
