Bulgarian Children Robbed in Rome

Crime | May 17, 2006, Wednesday // 00:00

A bus with Bulgarian children on a trip to Italy has been robbed of EUR 4 000.

Italian newspaper Messaggero has revealed that the schoolteacher that was looking after the young travelers was tricked by a local man pretending to be police officer.

He joined the group while they were taking a rest in Rome, and searched their bus. Then he took the teacher's bag claiming that he wanted to check on papers, but stole the money they carried for travel expenses instead.

Local authorities were helpful, providing gas for the vehicle. A local supermarket provided the Bulgarians with mineral water for free, Messaggero has said.
