Bulgarian Museums Open Doors Free of Charge

More than 30 museums in Bulgaria will meet visitors free of charge on May 18, the International Museum Day.

In some places history lovers will be offered to see brand new exhibitions, Rumyan Ganchev, from the National Centre on Museums, Galleries and Arts, told journalists on Wednesday.

The Museum Day of Open Doors will include the National Arts Gallery, the Foreign Arts Gallery, the Polytechnic Gallery, the Nature and Science Gallery, the National Literature Museum, etc.

Regional history museums in Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Plovdiv, Kurdzhali, Kyustendil, Russe, Vidin, Shumen, Razgrad, Gabrovo, Dobritch, Dimitrovgrad, Sliven, Pernik, will also mark this day with doors wide open.

The International Museum Day has been celebrated all over the world since 1977. This year it runs under the motto "Museums and young people" - a theme selected to raise awareness on how young people participate in redefining the mission and practices of heritage institutions in the 21st century.
