A Bulgarian policeman under the influence of alcohol crashed his car near Lovech in the north of the country, reports claim.

When he choked with another vehicle, the 47-year-old Genadiy Blazhev attempted to flee the crime scene, but colleagues apprehended him.

Blazhev's blood alcohol level was close to 3 promiles and he was speeding. When apprehended, the man was rude to the officers and witnesses. He was deprived of his personal gun and vehicle and will be investigated.

The policeman, who had been on the force for 20 years was on duty, and he was supposed to take over the shift two hours after the accident.

Such incidents blemish the authorities' reputation and all our achievements, and they won't go unpunished, Milko Dimitrov from the district police department said.
