Court Clears Bulgarian Journalist of Fraud Charges

A Sofia court has ruled in favour of journalist Bobi Tsankov on charges of fraud, launched by a business lady.

Bobi Tsankov, 27, who shifted from radio to TV anchoring, was detained at the end of February. Tsankov became a household name three years ago when a business lady accused him of stealing BGN 50,000 (approximately EUR 25,000) from her. Vanya Chervenkova claims Tsankov charged her for an advertising campaign which was never rolled out.

The court however found the testimonies of Vanya Chervenkova and Bobi Tsankov over their agreement on financing the construction of bill boards across Sofia to be contradictory.

On the day of Tsankov's arrest the Economic Police appealed to all citizens who might have suffered losses from the journalist to send a signal. At least 80 complaints have been lodged.
