Delaware State Police are investigating a series of thefts involving skimming devices placed on automatic teller machines (ATMs) with clues leading to Bulgaria.
The clients of the Wilmington Trust bank complained that large quantities of money being withdrawn in Sofia, Bulgaria. There was also activity reported in Newark, as well as in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. At this point in the investigation, police said the total loss to Wilmington Trust is USD 74,682.19.
Police said that on April 5, three suspects entered a Wilmington Trust bank branch and placed a video camera on an ATM machine located in the vestibule to record customers' personal identification numbers, or PINs. The suspects then placed a skimming device on the ATM machine that read all of the customers' debit card information.
The suspects were observed on video surveillance placing the camera and a skimming device on April 5, April 6, April 9 and April 10.
The suspects on the video surveillance all appear to be men of thin build and with short brown hair.
