German Cannibal Jailed for Life

Armin Meiwes, the German who killed and ate an apparently willing victim in 2001, was sentenced to life in jail Tuesday. The 44-year-old computer technician was facing a re-trial after a previous sentence for eight-and-a-half-year prison was dismissed as too lenient. Meiwes met his victim in an Internet chat room. Bernd Juergen Brandes, 43, agreed to the idea of being devoured by Meiwes. Shocking details from the incident showed that Brandes let Meiwes cut his member off, flambe it and serve to eat together. Then the volunteered victim was murdered and partly consumed. A lawyer argued that Meiwes was not dangerous to society, but the cannibal himself had admitted he still had fantasies about devouring the flesh of attractive young people, a phychologist said in courtroom.
