Labour Minister, Emilia Maslarova, readily admits that the efforts of her department hardly make any difference in Bulgarians' real life. A leading member of the Socialist party, she can rattle off statistics and insist they prove how life-saving her efforts are. On a day such as the international Labour Day we are more than ready to admit we are not happy with them. Minister Maslarova loves to say unemployment has hit a fifteen-year low, the percentage of "wealthy Bulgarians" have increased from 3 to 13%, the minimum wage is up by BGN 10, while those who live on the brink of misery - barely literate people - are just under 7%. All of these are hardly worth bragging about. Scratch the surface and you will see that the smug figures rely on miserable and humiliating employment programs or something twisted in the psychology of the Bulgarian - he may describe himself as well-off if only he was fortunate enough to buy a house and secures himself the safety he cant' find anywhere else. Curious to know how the minister, happy to explain everything with heavy legacy and world trends, will explain this trend. Or explain to those 87% not-wealthy Bulgarians their life has been having a ball. Even if it may not feel like it.
