Ministers and MPs of the Simeon II National Movement (SIINM) described Saturday's speech of leader of Simeon II National Movement and Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg as just criticism but said it was not a sign of forthcoming cabinet changes. They believe that at its next meeting the movement will be transformed into a political party.

The Constituent Assembly of the party Simeon II National Movement was postponed on January 26 and rescheduled for April 6, 2002. Simeon Saxe-Coburg, chairman of the coalition council, explained that his commitment to dedicate all his time and efforts to his tasks as Bulgaria's Prime Minister stops him from taking the honorable position of a party leader. He recommended that some of the numerous proposals concerning the party be taken into account in drawing up its statute.

He also said that he does not approve of "petty squabbles, lack of teamwork, ministers interested in solving the problems of their administrations rather than those of the people, deputies who have forgotten that they are representatives of the people.

Deputy Prime Minister and Labour and Social Minister Lidia Shouleva told reporters that this is not the first time the Prime Minister criticizes the work of the Cabinet. Nikolay Vassilev, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister declined to comment. According to Foreign Minister Passy the Prime Minister has always been strict with his team. Atanas Shterev of the organizational committee of the Constituent Assembly said the postponement was unexpected.
