Sofia's people will soon have the pleasure to combine their transportation with music experiences.

The capital's subway will be playing various melodies - from folklore to classical - as of May 1, it was announced Sunday.

In the late hours from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. chill out, jazz, classical, as well as folk and pop tunes will wash away tiredness from passengers returning home from work.

The Metromedia advertising channel, who initiated the metro music treat, have dropped all mainstream superhits from their play list, with the idea to provide people with an unusual and more challenging experience.

In rush hours, more than 40 000 people travel in the first section of Sofia's subway system.

It was launched in 1998, and the construction of new stations continues. So far the capital, with its hectic traffic and everyday jams, remains the only Bulgarian city with subway transport.
