Back To Sleep

By Petya Bondokova

Once again, Bulgarian media were swiftly put back to sleep after an attack against a journalist. It's always a big bang right after the news breaks. But... the brightest flame burns quickest, it seems. Vassil Ivanov's apartment was blown up, but while the investigation does not seem to has come to concrete results, Sofia's mayor Boyko Borisov promised that the municipality would have the building fixed. Not bad. At least now we have one promise fulfilled! Ivanov and his neighbours had a brand new elevator and window glasses for Easter. He still walks around with personal security guards. Maybe getting some window glass for free is better than having the feeling that you are safe walking the streets, going to work, returning home to your family? Or maybe the authorities should focus on arresting the criminals rather than on stupid tricks to gain public approval. And we should wake up and remind ourselves that glass is cheaper than free speech.
