Dangerous Biological Waste Stored in Bulgaria

Crime | April 21, 2006, Friday // 00:00

Dangerous biological waste has been transported to the Bulgarian city of Ruse from Germany, rightist MP General Atanas Atanasov revealed Friday.

Ruse's mayor and the local authorities have been informed about the case three days ago, but they haven't undertaken any measures so far.

The two trucks transporting the load are owned by the Dobrich company "Imperial". They have passed the border on March 20 and then on April 11. The trucks came from Germany, customs documentations show.

The rightist MP received the signal for the biological waste from a police officer, who got a nasty rash after he unpacked some of the bales. The man explained to Atanasov that one of the bales got damaged during the unpacking and he could see blood banks, syringes and other medical waste. The expects that investigated the case concluded that this was most probably biological waste - either human or animal.

Part of the biological waste has been stored at Russe's garbage dump, posing a threat to people from the city, General Atanasov alarmed.

Russe's dump does not boast the special conditions needed for the disposal of biological waste. This was a crime against the people's health, Atanasov added.
