The center of Bulgaria's capital city Sofia was refreshed in the sunny Friday morning with the test launch of the fountains in front of the National Palace of Culture.

Over 40 fountains in Sofia have been reconstructed, Sofia mayor Boyko Borisov announced at the test launch. The fountains are being renovated with the assistance of "Sofiyska voda".

In the words of Borissov after the renovation the fountains in front of the National Palace of Culture will be officially launched on May 23. More than EUR 100,000 have been invested in the renovation of the fountains and their monthly maintenance will cost EUR 2,500.

The fountains will include 27 water effects and four cascades, and will be lit up in four colours.

There will be six fountains coloured in white, green, red and blue symbolizing the Bulgarian flag and the flag of the European Union.
