Villa Villekula, the house of the popular, unconventional and mischievous children's book heroine Pippi Longstocking, will be located in Sofia downtown at the end of May.
The delightful surprise is part of the first festival dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of legendary Swedish writer of children's books Astrid Lindgren, organized in Bulgaria. The event will take place from May 26 to June 11.
Bertil Roth, the Swedish Ambassador to Bulgaria, and members of the honorary committee of the festival, including Euro-Affairs Minister Meglena Kuneva and distinguished writer Leda Mileva, launched Wednesday a competition for children's pictures inspired by Lindgren's works, the pranks of Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson, and Emil among others.
The agenda of the festival, initiated and organized by the Swedish Embassy in Sofia, also features seminars and theatre performances.
"I am extremely glad that we launched a project in Bulgaria to mark the anniversary. It targets the Bulgarian children, who I am sure read with great interest her books," Ambassador Roth said.
