Bulgarian Taxi Driver Battered After Row with Rivals

Crime | April 17, 2006, Monday // 00:00

A taxi driver was beaten up with a baseball bat by two rival drivers in a brawl over his place in the taxi rank in Bulgaria's Plovdiv.

A father and his son battered the man and knifed him several times right across the street from a popular club. He ended up in a hospital with several cuts along his face and neck. The man's colleagues rushed to donate blood for the surgery that he had to undergo.

The two assailants were quite the bullies and always sparked conflicts, other taxi drivers noted. They didn't even have licenses to operate a cab and were not affiliated with any of the local taxi companies, some claim.

After several drivers started a fight over some clients last week, this incident shows that taxi turf wars in Plovdiv are still a long way from coming to a resolution.
