Law enforcement remains one of the most serious problems in Bulgaria, the European Union once again told Sofia. And our politicians once again vowed to cope with that problem. A familiar scenario, right? Just a day earlier Bulgaria's lawmakers spent nearly four hours debating on the "hooligan acts" of a Bulgarian MP, a person that is supposed to work for the law. We may take a sigh of relief that EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn missed these "meaningful high-level talks in Parliament." It is really strange that the MPs spent so much of their and our precious time in debates on the behavior of Chernev instead of on the decision whether to strip him of MP immunity. But what surprises me even more is that a lawmaker has no fear of the law. That leaves the question why should criminals respect the law when they see this person that violates it so blatantly and faces no consequences of his deeds. Now sigh with relief once again for Olli Rehn failed to see that Bulgaria's failing to fulfill its promises.
