Bulgaria's renowned artist Gredi Assa opened in Sofia a new exhibition, titled "Places" that shows his somewhat abstract view of the places he has visited.

"Places are points in our lives, that to a large extent determine our way of life, our thoughts, behaviour, and relationships," the author thinks. His intriguing paintings have been created in three stages - drawn as seen in nature, then transformed in a more internal landscape, and finally withdrawn through an abstraction much like memories.

Childhood places leave lasting memories, the author believes, and when one returns to them, emotions arise spontaneously.

Born in Bulgaria, a professor of arts, with exhibits in Hamburg, Budapest, Vienna, Aahen, Sweden, Switzerland, and Israel, Assa describes himself as a man who constantly tries to seize time on the canvass. Some consider him a neo-expressionist, while others praise him as a tender artist.
