Jocic to Claim "Bulgaria's Heroin Channels"

Crime | March 27, 2006, Monday // 00:00

International drug-trafficker Sreten Jocic, who was recently extradited to Serbia, is likely to return to Bulgaria to control the heroin channels from the Middle East to Western Europe once he is released from prison.

The prediction was made by police experts Marko Nicovic for the Belgrade daily Glas Javnosti.

Sreten Jocic, known as "Joca Amsterdam," is currently serving his prison for ordering the murder of Goran Marjanovic.

He was captured in Bulgaria and extradited at the request of the Dutch authorities, who suspected him of plotting an assassination against a Dutch prosecutor. Due to lack of irrefutable evidence, the Netherlands agreed to hand the suspected mobster over to Serbia.

"It is well known that Sreten Jocic enjoys the benevolence of Bulgaria's and Turkey's intelligence services, who woo drug-traffickers to set up black funds," said Nicovic.

The release of Sreten Jocic will send shivers to the spine of the son of toppled Serb dictator Slobodan Milosevic, Marco.

Marco Milosevic is believed to have been part of the scheme for smuggling cigarettes through the Black Sea port of Burgas together with Ivan Todorov, known as Doktora, a prominent underworld figure who was shot dead in February in downtown Sofia.

Doktora however is also believed to be the contact person for Sreten Jocic.
