A Bulgarian restaurant will be opened in Tokyo. The initiative for the opening of restaurant "Sofia" comes from Meiji Dairies Corporation President Hisashi Nakayama, who is also Bulgaria's honorary consul to Japan.

Meiji Dairies Corporation has been producing Bulgarian yogurt in Japan since 1973.

The restaurant will open doors in April in a newly built business complex in Tokyo. "Sofia" will be decorated in the traditional Bulgarian style and its owners expect it to become a preferred meeting spot for the Bulgarian community in Japan. It also aims to popularize Bulgaria in the country of the Raising Sun.

Bulgaria's Ambassador to Japan Blagovest Sendov and Bulgaria's sumo wrestler Kaloyan Mahlyanov - Kotooshu, will attend the official opening ceremony. At the same time Kotooshu will receive a special apron by the European Unmion for his achievements in sumo. The apron is a friendship symbol between the EU and Japan.

Kotooshu, which means "European harp", is the first European sumo wrestler who gained the second-highest rank of ozeki (champion).
