Scandal Rocks Bulgaria's Eurovision Contest Anew

A new scandal marred Bulgaria's Eurovision 2006 contest once again.

Just a day after the viewers picked Mariana Popova with her song "Let me cry again" through sms voting, her opponents questioned the results. Popova received the support of 24,05% of the voters or 15,000sms and 4,700 calls.

In an open letter sent to the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) director Ulyana Pramova singers and musicians protested against the technical faults that occurred during the voting through sms and calls.

The finalists complained that BNT has imposed a limit of 10 minutes and up to 5 calls from one phone. The affected finalists claim that some of their supporters were unable to vote within the set time limit and therefore called for "new correct voting without any doubts that final result have been determined preliminary."

The problems at the Eurovision contest in Bulgaria are becoming a weird tradition as last year, the first time the country joined the major event, a major scandal rocked the contest in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian participation in the spectacle was once again marred by a vote-rigging scandal. The country's representative band, Kaffe, were accused by other Bulgarian contestants of generating SMS votes through specially bought SIM cards. The scandal broke during the live gala concert in Sofia when the winners were announced.
