A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale shook Monday noon Romania's mountainous area of Vrancea, home to a major fault line that has seen dozens of quakes in recent years. The epicenter of the earthquake, registered at 12.41h local time, was at a depth of 145 kilometers. The rattle was felt in the capital of Bucarest but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. In 1977, a 7.6-magnitude quake killed more than 1,000 people in the Vrancea area when dozens of buildings collapsed. In October last year the region was rocked by a 5.8 earthquake, but caused no injuries.
