The buildings of the Military Club and the Palace, where the National Arts Gallery is housed, flashed in new lights on the eve of March 3 national holiday.

The author of the illumination project on the facade the historic Military Club is Sofia municipality, funded by the Defense Ministry.

Finances for lightening up the outdoor of the National Arts Gallery were provided by the Bulgraian Telecommunications Company (BTC).

The illumination initiative is part of a municipal project that envisages putting additional lights to the historic, cultural and most representative buildings of the two-million capital city, including the Synod, Sofia University, the tomb of Prince Alexander Batenberg, the National Library, etc.

Seventeen Sofia-located churches have already come to new life after being equipped with outdoor illumination.

The public-buildings lights-on initiative is meant to decrease the level of crime and to make the capital more attractive to tourists, Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov has explained.

Sofia and its suburban areas are among the richest in churches and monasteries dating back from early Roman times.
