Kathimerini Daily wrote that currently ruling majority in Bulgaria failed to realize its pre-election promises. The newspaper predicts that the bad economic situation will lead to early parliamentary elections. According to the article last year Bulgaria’s political life turned out to be totally unpredictable – an ex-King was elected Prime Minister, while the new President was the Socialist Party's leader. The author points out that Bulgaria fears an Argentina-like crisis, since large sections of the population grow poorer and poorer. Recently conducted surveys leave no room for optimism, Kathimerini Daily concludes.

Greece’s Prime Minister Kostas Simitis is expected to arrive in Sofia on January 22, 2002, the Greek media reported. The visit in Bulgaria is part of the Prime Minister's Balkan tour. His meetings in Sofia will focus on energy projects and the oil pipeline Burgas-Alexandroupolis in particular.
