Bulgarian Hotel Charges Differently Foreigners

Letters to the Editor | February 20, 2006, Monday // 00:00

Hello!

This is Claude Falzon from Malta. I come to Sofia very often.

I bought some property in Bulgaria both in Vidin and Sofia.

Bulgarian hotels had to equalize room rates and prices for Bulgarains and foreigners.

I contacted Hotel Anna-Kristina in Vidin for room rates and prices for my clients in Malta and they gave different prices for foreigners and Bulgarians. For Bulgarians the stay in the hotel is cheaper.

We asked them why the price is different. And they answered that the law has not yet arrived to Vidin.

I would like you to follow the story please and make an issue out of this because it is not fair on foreigners who try to make business in Bulgaria. Besides this as you know it is illegal under EU law to charge different rates based on nationality. Bulgarian Parliament changed the law last year.
