New Abu Ghraib Pictures Fuel Fears in US

The newly released pictures of the horrifying tortures that took place in the Iraqi Abu Ghraib prison have fuels new fears in the US and against it, media comments. The new images are said to have been taken at the same time the now-infamous pictures of US soldiers abusing Abu Ghraib detainees which sparked international outrage in 2004. Nine soldiers were prosecuted for the abuses in the prison. A dozen or so more were reprimanded - their careers finished. After seeing the new repulsive photographs of tortured prisoners civil rights groups immediately called for new and fully independent investigations into Abu Ghraib and other detention facilities.
