The last group of four Bulgarians left on January 14 for Livingston Island in the Antarctic to join the Bulgarian expedition there. The national emblem, given to them by Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg and the national flag will be flown at the Bulgarian polar base on Livingston Island. The other members of the expedition, who are the core of the research group of St. Kliment Ohridski University, have been on Livingston Island since November. The expedition will continue their search for Jurassic fossils. Last year they became the only group to find a unique fossil of a cephalopod that have lived only in the Jurassic period. The research programme of the expedition also includes studies on the effect of the polar environment on man.
