Militant group Hamas won Thursday the Palestinian parliamentary election. Three exit polls had forecast a slim Fatah victory, indicating that Hamas was set to win at least 53 of the 132 seats against 58 for Fatah. Turnout was 78% of the 1.3 million voters. Meanwhile, Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has announced his resignation, saying Hamas must form the next government following the parliamentary elections. Israel, the US and the EU consider Hamas a terrorist group and have said they do not want to deal with it.
