Evgenia Radanova won the women's 1,500-meter race on the first day of the European short track speed skating championship in Krynica Zdroj, southern Poland.

Bulgaria's five-times European and World Champion at 500m left behind Italy's Marta Capurso, who came in second in 2:33.010. Arianna Fontana of Italy ranked third at 2:33.499.

In the men's race, Nicola Rodigari of Italy finished first in 2 minutes, 21.500 seconds. Belgium's Pieter Gysel came second in 2:21.595 and Nicola Franceschina of Italy took third in 2.21:814.
